Only caught a bit of this game. Can anyone comment that actually watched this? Who looked good? Aside from Kulak.

I get the feeling Todd only pulled stats and twitter for this one..

Was at my annual live hockey draft with a bunch of friends so admittedly all I could do for this one was go through the highlights and numbers.

Chad Johnson looked ROCK solid the entire time. Todd nailed it. It IS nice to have goaltending.

Aside from Kulak and Johnson, I did like Jankowski. I feel it will take a bit of seasoning, but I get the impression that he will in fact be a solid NHLer.

Chad Johnson is a really good backup, he was reliable for Islanders when he was there.

What is the deal with Gaudreau ? Sign the guy already. I don’t understand why Gaudreau doesn’t just sign a contract with a full NMC for a nickel under what Gio gets, this takes him up to his first year of UFA and be done with it. He gets his huge pay day in 2 or 3 years and Calgary gets their guy for a reasonable price now. If Calgary wants some of Gaudreau’s UFA years they have to pay for it. Or am i way off on this one?

He is built like a 10 to 12 year old boy isn’t he? Crazy mad skills. I wish he was on the other team in Alberta!

I've heard that what you hear in the media is pretty close to reality. Johnny's agent won't come down from the $8million mark. Don't be surprised to see him sit until Christmas time.

Brutal I just read an article about Marchant’s deal helping Gaudreau. Here is the last paragraph. Interesting to say the least.

6 years into his career Brad Marchand hit pay dirt and got a great deal from the Bruins. 2 years into his career and Johnny Gaudreau is sitting at home waiting for his deal to get done. Gaudreau has better numbers after only two seasons and his career is trending upward. The Bruins may be thrilled with what they were able to get Marchand for, but the Flames should be angry about that deal. Now, Lewis and Gaudreau just need to point at the Marchand deal and tell the Flames to get real with their contract offers.

He needs to cash in on this contract before he gets a career ending concussion...

ohnny wants to be paid like the top 10 scoring talent that he produced last year. Out producing kopitar, stamkos, ov, malkin, Ryan O'Reilly, Toews. Perry, Giroux, Getzlaf, Nash, Parise, Spezza, Voracek. Those guys are making over 7.5m. Im sure thats his camps argument.

Not saying he deserves that after an impressive season last year, but there are big contracts that he has out produced the past seaon

(frank) off with this schadenfreude crap. I'm sure that's a point of concern for the Gaudreau side but no need to for you to happily bring it up.

Johnny should get paid but 1 year sample compared to the several years of the guys you just mentioned. And those guys have proven other tangibles and have cups and finals appearances to boast on their resumes. Even Tarasenko, whos contract most compare Johnny's potential contract to, has more NHL experience and plays a more hard to handle game.

oh im not disagreeing, those players make that money for other reasons other that total points.

I think he signs for 7.5m as the medium bw the 2 sides. Flames just need to be prepared to make him your highest pair player. Avs went through that with Stastny and ROR. They are good, but not 7m+ good to be the highest paid players on their team when the golden goose is MacKinnon.

Flames might not value Johnny as the franchise cornerstone like Mony or Gio so they dont want to pay him more than those guys

$7.5 as a max in my opinion. Term will play a significant role in the fav as well. I agree, though. Goo is the captain and the straw that stirs the drink but Johnny is the booze that makes the drink in a lot of ways and the Flames are going to have to abandon plan A and give hime at least $7mil. I wonder if the Flames promised Gio he would be the highest paid Flame for a # of years and don't want to welch on that promise?

I think JG's agent is looking at a 8 year deal worth $8 million per year. I can't remember a player getting that kind of money after two seasons in the NHL. All its going to do is set precedent and the next player down the line coming off an entry level contract is going to want $10 million.

I don't understand this whole Gio thing. Would it actually make a difference to Gio himself? What if the Flames won the lottery and drafted McDavid? They would trade him after his ELC expires cause of Gio? It just doesn't make sense, I don't think it has any impact on the negotiations personally.

I think the real goat in this whole thing is Gaudreau's agent. I doubt Johnny even cares, and I doubt he really has any knowledge of what's going on (aside from what his agent tells him). It's just bad overall.

What is going on with the NHL.com official team sites? Appears they want no interaction with their fan base.

I think the Blues effed up on this one.

They paid Tarasenko too much and Gaudreau's agent is using him as a direct comparison. If you conveniently ignore that Tarasenko was a depth player for a great Blues team, Gaudreau had better numbers in the first two seasons.

Full on game of chicken between GM and agent, and its getting nobody anywhere. Do you remember back when PK Subban finished up his RFA bridge deal and was at logger heads with GM Mark Begervin over his new contract, and GM MB wasn't going to pay him a cent over 7mil?! Ownership led by Geoff Moulson had to step in and say, thanks for trying Mark but this is getting us nowhere, we're going to pay the man what he wants so we can get to playing hockey.

I think we may be at that point where the same thing needs to be done by ownership here. We all know Brad is a good GM, but I don't see this stalemate ending until he's ready to pony up 7.5 mil AAV.

yeah with Subban there was a deadline in arbitration or offersheets.

With Johnny there is no deadline, if they are dead set at that number, they will sit as long as possible
